A shootout in a Spartanburg, South Carolina house has left three people shot, with one of them being slain. Among those shot were a police officer and two people who were already inside the house.

The incident occurred shortly before 8am Thursday at a residence, located at 103 B Orange Street, while officials of the tactical team's narcotics unit were executing a search warrant for someone by the name of Toby Eugene Moore. When police went inside the South Carolina residence, someone began to open fire at them, and, in response, the officers returned fire, resulting in a shootout. One of the officers, identified as Officer Jason Harris, was shot in the side.

When the officers fired back, the two people who were in the house were wounded.

Harris was, then, taken to a South Carolina area hospital, where he was required to undergo minor surgery to have the bullet removed. He has been discharged, according to authorities.

When the bullet struck the wounded officer’s holster, the bullet had, therefore, lost its speed. In addition, if it wasn’t for the holster, then it could have injured the officer even more seriously, authorities said.

Paramedics who were embedded in the tactical unit were able to offer urgent medical assistance to those injured, authorities said.

Police say that there was only one person who died from the gunfire, and he has been identified as William Randoloph Rodgers, who was apparently shot several times. They also added that Rodgers was armed throughout the gunfire. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Rodgers’ death is currently under scrutiny and an autopsy is expected to take place soon, according to the medical examiner.

Moore, 32, was not wounded. He was taken into custody and indicted for distribution of drugs. He is now sitting in the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

One of the other people who were inside the house, identified as Amanda Beth Gentry, was wounded and was treated at the hospital. She is anticipated to be discharged.

When Gentry’s background check was performed by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), it was learned that she was taken into police custody numerous times before, and those arrests cited offenses, such as prostitution and drug-related offenses, and they dated back to 2007. Further, records revealed that she had two prior convictions for prostitution.

Sources say that no charges related to this incident are anticipated to be filed against Gentry.

Toby Moore also has a rap sheet that dates back to 1998. Records revealed that he was found guilty of simple assault and battery, marijuana possession, and open container of alcohol, as learned by SLED.

As for Rodgers, the suspect who was fatally gunned down, he was found guilty of reckless driving and failure to stop for a blue light back in 2002.

Officer Jason Harris was known as a 6-year veteran of the Spartanburg Police Department. He was so lucky to survive the attack, thanks to the holster he was wearing.

The area where the incident occurred is known for drug activities, authorities said.
