South Carolina female meth lab suspect arrestedAuthorities in Florence County, South Carolina have arrested the final suspect wanted in connection with a methamphetamine lab operation discovered in Sumter County, South Carolina in May. The capture of 20-year-old Melissa Osteen around 11 a.m. Monday by deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office ends a month-long search.
Maj. Gary Metts of the Sumter County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Office said Osteen was taken into custody after an informant gave investigators in Florence County an indication of where she might be hiding. She was found at a Florence-area residence, Metts said, where she was with another woman, a man believed to be her brother, and her two young children.
None of the others at the residence were charged, and Metts said officers left the two children in the custody of Osteen’s relative. Osteen is to be returned to Sumter County, South Carolina authorities said, where she will be charged with two counts of manufacturing methamphetamine and taken to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center to await a bond hearing.
If convicted, Osteen faces up to 15 years in jail and a $25,000 fine for each offense. Her capture means she will be taken off Sumter County’s Top 10 Most Wanted list, where both she and 39-year-old David Jerome “Jerry” Benenhaley were placed in June.
